This post is an interesting one because it solves a very real problem that we sometimes have when we want to monitor changes on a document. There are three main tips in this post:

      1. How an inbuilt feature inside Documents works to show you new changes.
      2. How to use a couple of Add-ons for Drive that allow you to specify notifications.

How to know when something in a Google Doc/Sheet has changed

Docs - see new changesFirstly, there is a feature inside Docs which shows you new changes since you were last in the Document. This is really handy if you haven’t checked a document for a while. As you open the document, you’ll notice to the right of the file name a blue indicator that says ‘see new changes’.

If you click this it will highlight the new changes on the document and take you into the Revision History. Changes are colour coded so you can see who did what – handy!

Using Add-ons to see which files changed, or to monitor changes in specific files

      ezNotifications for Google Drive

This handy add on allows you to be notified of changes to a folder inside your Drive, or a specific file. There is a free or paid version of this Add-on.

      Checker Plus for Google Drive
