[/accessally_has_any_tag]Oftentimes we might want to watch a video offline rather than having to rely on streaming it from the internet. This tutorial is a compilation of tips which give you options for achieving this using some of the most popular online video sources – youtube, vimeo, and wistia.

I strike this problem frequently due to being a travelling consultant because I frequently need to watch videos stored on the web, but can’t when I’m flying. Here are some solutions I’ve come across.

These tips need to be prefaced with a bit about copyright – please make sure you are following the applicable copyright laws when doing this. If you would like support in developing policies and procedures, as well as organisational understandings about copyright, please get in touch.

Use scenarios

  • When travelling and you don’t have wifi.
  • When you need to play a video in a slow wifi spot within your school (eg at an assembly).
  • For keeping a copy of a video on a fileserver (though this idea may have time limitations as fileservers get replaced by the cloud).
